The Washington men’s crew team will look for its 14th national title this weekend, as it travels east to Camden, N.J., for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship (IRA).

The UW will put its No. 1 ranking on the line and attempt to avenge last year’s loss in the IRA to rival California. The Huskies have beaten Cal already this season, edging out the Bears in the annual dual meet April 23.

Racing will begin Thursday morning with preliminary heats and will continue into the weekend, with the grand finals Saturday.

Should the Huskies win the grand finals Saturday, they will have won two national titles in the past three years under the direction of head coach Michael Callahan.

The IRA is collegiate rowing’s oldest championship in the country and is intertwined with UW’s rowing tradition. The Huskies picked up their first national title there in 1923 and have sustained success throughout the years on the daunting Cooper River.
