From an increase in theft to confiscated marijuana, this weekly crime blotter aims to inform readers about offenses on and surrounding campus. While in-depth articles may be written about specific incidents, this column provides a brief overview of recent crimes that impact the UW community.

Tuesday, Oct. 13

Officers contacted seven individuals who admitted to smoking marijuana near the Staff Human Resource Center. After patting down the suspects, police found a small black leather case that contained two glass pipes, which were confiscated for destruction. Authorities issued the suspects trespass warnings and Uniform Controlled Substance Act warnings.

Wednesday, Oct. 14

A student attending a UW Marching Band practice left her backpack in a cubicle inside the storage room used for the band. When she returned, the iPod Touch that had been in the front zipper pocket was missing, along with the case and headphones. The estimated loss is $387.49, and the case was referred to UW Police Department (UWPD) detectives.

Saturday, Oct. 17

A victim reported that his sunglasses, MP3 player, speaker and CDs were stolen from his vehicle in the N11 parking lot. The estimated loss is $954.00; the vehicle showed no signs of forced entry.

The hard drive of a Dell computer in Merrill Hall was damaged, and a memory card in the device was stolen. The computer belonged to the university, and the estimated damage is $600. There were no signs of forced entry.

Sunday, Oct. 18

Around 9:50 p.m., a student was robbed at gunpoint near Northeast 42nd Street and 9th Avenue Northeast as she was walking. Seattle Police Department officers located the suspects in the vicinity, and they were positively identified by the victim and booked into King County Jail. The criminals are believed to have been involved in another robbery that occurred near 65th Street and Woodlawn Avenue Northeast.

After observing an individual attempting to hide or conceal something from view, officers pressed for information. The suspect confessed that he had a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe on his person, and was placed under arrest. He was cooperative with authorities and was released with a warning on the scene.

Tuesday, Oct. 20

An unknown suspect smashed the driver’s-side window of a car in the E9 parking lot. Nothing was taken from the vehicle, and there were no suspects at the time of the report.

The UWPD received a report via email that a man in Suzzallo Library exposed his genitalia in the aisle of the second floor. The complainant was able to videotape the suspect but didn’t manage to capture his face because she was sitting on the floor.
