UW vs. Central game thread

By Christian Caple — November 4, 2009

I'M BORED--Huskies lead 66-32 with 8:30 to go. Updates will be sporadic as I write the story.

FREE THROWS NOT FALLING--Huskies are 51.6 percent from the line.

PONDEXTER COMING ALIVE--He's got six points in the second half, and could have more if he could make his free throws. He's missed three since halftime. 57-25 Huskies with 15:29 left in the game.

TON OF BOARDS--One of the results of so many missed field goals is a ridiculous amount of rebounds. UW has a 36-25 edge on the glass at halftime. Matthew Bryan-Amaning leads all with eight rebounds, followed by Pondexter and Thomas with five each. Gaddy has three assists. No CWU player has more than one field goal.

BLOWOUT--Thomas hits a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Huskies a 43-18 lead heading into the locker room for halftime. CWU is 4-27 from the field, 9-21 from the free throw line and has turned the ball over 12 times. That's basically the difference.

CWU 3-22 FROM FIELD--Yuck.

GAME OVER--UW still doesn't look great, but the Wildcats are really, really bad. They're 3-18 from the field right now. Huskies lead 30-10.

TEAMS COMBINED 9-38 FROM THE FIELD--That's not good. Central is also not good. Huskies lead 22-9 with 7:43 left in the first half.

THOMAS STRUGGLING--He's 2-8 from the field and 2-5 from the free throw line. And he's missed all three of his 3-point attempts.

UW LEADS 16-5--Pondexter just hit a 3-pointer, a good sign for him. 11:00 left in the half.

OVERTON BOTHERING PEOPLE--He's already knocked a couple balls out of bounds while applying that patented pressure near the midcourt line, and he just drew an offensive foul, too. Central already seems frustrated by him. Something tells me they won't be the only ones to feel that way this season.

BRESHERS, GADDY IN--Both getting their first playing time as Huskies. Gaddy got a nice cheer from the crowd. And Breshers just made a nice mvoe to the rim and scored while being fouled.

UW STARTS 1-7--Ugly shooting, too.

OVERTON RUNNING THE POINT--And his mouth, already. He's not doing either very well. Already a couple sloppy turnovers for the Huskies early. Must be an exhibition game.

Well, it's finally basketball season. Wonder how long it'll be before UW football fans can actually enjoy the entire season before they get desperate for basketball season to start.

The Dawg Pack looks about 3/4 full, which has kind of been the norm for exhibition games. Looks like a pretty sparse crowd overall at this point, though there are still about 15 minutes before tip off.

Huskies will go with Isaiah Thomas, Venoy Overton, Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Quincy Pondexter and Darnell Gant as the starting lineup. No rel surprises there. Should be interesting to see how long Lorenzo Romar waits to get Abdul Gaddy into the game. I don't think it's going to be too long before Gaddy is in the starting lineup, though it really doesn't matter. Being a starter under Romar isn't really that big of a deal, because as he's said, he considers Gaddy, Thomas and Overton as starters, regardless of which two of them are actually on the floor to begin the game. They'll all play a lot. And Gaddy seems to have the right attitude to be the odd guy out at this point.

I'll have more once this thing gets going

I suppose it was OK that I left early.
