Greetings from Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif.--Well, we're finally situated here in the press box at Stanford Stadium, where it's at least a little cooler inside than it is outside. A little more than an hour and a half to go before kickoff. We only had to ask about five or six gate attendants where the media entrance was, too. You'd think people at Stanford would be a little better with that sort of thing. But I digress.

This is one of the nicer press boxes in the conference, with some sort of marble material used for the actual work area, and nicely furnished wood type stuff all over the place. A pretty good pre-game spread, too, with sandwiches and fruit and whatnot.

How about Oregon today? Just another reason why you never know what's going to happen week to week in college football. The Pac-10 figures to be that way all season. Speaking of which, they've got the Georgia-Arizona St. game on the video screen here. Bulldogs lead it, 7-3 with 3:23 left in the first quarter.

No Huskies out on the field yet, though there are some Stanford players warming up casually, possibly still trying to figure out how they're a 10-point favorite some places this week.

More later.
