An unidentified man robbed the Key Bank at University Village at about 9 a.m. yesterday.
The FBI and Seattle Police Department (SPD) are investigating the incident, and as of yesterday afternoon, no suspects had been taken into custody.
The suspect passed the teller a note, stole an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene on foot shortly before officers arrived. Witnesses said the suspect did not appear to have a weapon, an SPD spokesperson said.
The suspect is described as a white male with a full beard and mustache, between 30 and 40 years of age, with a medium build, wearing a dark-gray or blue cap, a black hooded jacket, and black pants, according to Seattle police.
Both SPD and the UW Police Department responded to the robbery. Several Seattle police vehicles patrolled the U-District in search of the suspect.
While university police officers are assisting in the effort to apprehend the suspect, UWPD will not conduct its own investigation, said UWPD commander Jerome Solomon.
“We are assisting with it within our normal patrols,” he said.
