1. So what did you think of the Super Bowl?

Christian: What Super Bowl? Brett Favre wasn’t in it, so I didn’t care.

Maks: I was about as emotionally invested in the Super Bowl as I’ll be during this weekend’s NBA Skills Challenge. By the way, did you know that this was New Orleans’ first-ever trip to the Super Bowl?

Allen: Betty White getting trucked in that Snickers ad was the most entertaining moment of the entire four-hour block aside from Tracy Porter’s interception.

Taylor: We’ve been spoiled with the quality of Super Bowl games that have been played the last few years. I’m not sure where I would have rather been: at the game or partying like crazy on Bourbon Street after.

2. The UW softball team begins its defense of the national title this week. Thoughts?

Christian: Sounds like Heather Tarr really likes what she has. And a little more power should make them even more fun to watch, and it also means Danielle Lawrie won’t have to throw eight shutout innings anymore just to keep her team in the game.

Maks: I’m just glad Danielle Lawrie will still be around to show Erik Bedard how to throw underhand when his labrum gives way in mid-July after a few 50-pitch starts.

Allen: Can’t wait. Too bad we won’t get to see the lights they installed at Husky Softball Stadium get used until March 11 when the Huskies host their first five games after 19 games on the road. How do they do it?

Taylor: This season will be two times as hard. Every team the Huskies play will be gunning for that upset, so everyone will need to be that much better. But with Danielle Lawrie on the mound, I like their chances of winning again.

3. Can the UW men’s basketball team still win the Pac-10 and get into the NCAA tournament?

Christian: Of course, it’s possible, but it’s going to require them to actually beat someone on the road. Once they do that, I could see their momentum carrying them quite a ways.

Maks: If the bigs keep playing the way they have and if the team keeps moving the ball around like they have lately (15 assists on 31 made field goals against ASU and 11 assists on 24 made field goals against Arizona), they’ll be fine.

Allen: OK. So I said in a column two weeks ago that the Huskies wouldn’t make the NCAA tournament because they haven’t been able to win on the road. My observation is still true and still stands, but wins at Cal and Stanford would be a big help.

Taylor: If the NCAA tournament was held at Hec Edmundson Pavilion, the Huskies would probably win the national championship. But it’s not — nor is any tournament game — and with their road performances thus far, I’m still not convinced this team can get back into the tournament.

4. Steve Phillips said he’s “fully responsible” for the affair he had that got him fired from ESPN. Make fun of him.

Christian: Sure, he’s responsible for the affair. But what’s more important is who’s responsible for his mistress’ face.

Maks: As opposed to “half-way” responsible? Something about the ugly truth.

Allen: So the woman Phillips had an affair with isn’t even 1 percent responsible for being so dang irresistible to him?

Taylor: So maybe it was Phillips who was behind the peephole camera watching ESPN’s Erin Andrews undress. Weird.
