Officers responded to a report of a stolen computer in the Communications Building. The victim returned from a meeting to find the new computer missing from the office, but he assumed that the device had not yet been installed. Officers arrived at the Guthrie Annex in response to a report of malicious mischief. An unknown suspect pried open a crawl-space hatch that was clearly marked with an asbestos advisory sticker. An outside contractor will be required to search the crawl space, and the estimated damage is $150.

At about 6:30 a.m., a male suspect robbed a convenience store at 15th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 58th Street, shooting a store employee in the process. The injuries proved fatal, and the suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Officers saw a woman and a man near Parrington Hall on campus. The man fled toward the Ave and Northeast 42nd Street, where authorities caught the suspect. Upon questioning, the woman stated that the man was a former boyfriend who attempted to steal her backpack while intoxicated. She had managed to tackle the suspect, but the man began punching her in the head repeatedly. After the woman bit the suspect in self defense, he ran away with her backpack, at which point the officers arrived on the scene. The suspect was later booked into King County Jail.
Authorities responded to a report from the UW Medical Center that a patient had hidden marijuana in her personal belongings. The suspect was in surgery when officers arrived, but they confiscated the suspected narcotics concealed in a cigarette box. Officers contacted the suspect the next day in the hospital to explain the requested charges.
The UW Police Department and the Seattle Police Department provide the information for this column.
