CHINA — Health authorities have decided to ban the serving of poultry that has been killed by poisonous snakes.
Poisonous-snake-bitten chicken, supposedly a detoxing meal served in the southern province of Guangdong and the southwest city of Chongquig, is under fire after a video surfaced online of a Chinese cook holding a lethal snake and forcing it to bite a live chicken until the bird died.
The Chinese media has called the practice “disgusting,” “blood thirsty,” “really cruel” and immoral. Health authorities have told restaurants to stop slaughtering poultry in this manner, although no customers have died as a consequence of eating the chicken dish.
Another dish to come under fire in Quangdong is made from brains removed from a live monkey.
SWITZERLAND — A car lost all four wheels simultaneously in Switzerland, bringing it to an abrupt stop in the middle of the highway last Saturday.
The passengers of the car had just changed from snow-appropriate winter wheels to summer ones, but they used incorrect nuts when attaching the new wheels.
Nobody was injured, and there was no damage to other vehicles.
GERMANY — A suspect in a $4 million kidnapping was caught after posting a personal ad unrelated to the crime.
The 56-year-old, who was self-described as “cultivated but seldom boring” and “financially independent,” posted a personal ad in the “Marriage Wanted” column and was arrested by police in Hamburg after asking his date to launder large sums of money.
It was unreported whether or not he will receive a second date from the unidentified woman.
NEW ZEALAND — Fallen power lines caused seven bulls to explode last week.
The fallen lines north of Aukland at Wilks Road Farm killed three bulls immediately, and four died later after wandering into the live wires. The animals were reported to have caught fire and exploded.
A hedgehog was also electrocuted in the incident.
FLORIDA — A stripper is being sued for kicking a man in the face with her stilettos.
Michael Ireland, 35, is suing 28-year-old Sakeena “Suki” Shageer of the Cheetah nightclub in West Palm Beach after receiving a stiletto to the face that resulted in a broken nose and injured eye. The injuries are expected to result in permanent double-vision. The suit is a result of Cheetah’s insurance refusing to pay for the damages caused by Shageer.
The United States has had several other notable stripper incidents recently, with a New York man suing a stripper for similar stiletto injuries during a lap dance, and another suing for cuts received from a mirror broken by another stiletto that flew off during a pole dance.
CHILE — A woman attempting to fly to Spain was arrested for using luggage made of cocaine at the Santiago airport.
Instead of smuggling the drugs in her luggage, the suitcases were literally made from a substance combining fiberglass and resin with cocaine, which through chemical processing would release the drug. Police reported that the suitcases made of this substance weighed more than their contents.
