Commencement day schedule


9 a.m.

There will be portrait sittings at Drumheller Fountain.

The graduates and their families may have photographs taken with no obligation to purchase. Complimentary proofs will be e-mailed to each participating graduate and family and will also be available at Photograds.com. To schedule a session, visit their Web site. Photograph sittings will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Noon

Husky Stadium doors open and students start lining up at Dempsey Indoor Practice Facility and the Outdoor Practice Field.

1:30 p.m.

The procession begins.

The faculty enters, led by the grand marshals, then doctoral degree candidates, master’s degree candidates, bachelor’s degree candidates, the deans’ party and the president’s party.

University marshal opens the commencement ceremony. After, there will be the presentation of the colors by the ROTC.

The singing of national anthem will be followed by UW President Mark Emmert’s opening remarks, the presentation of awards, remarks by student speakers and lastly, the commencement address by the U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates.

The conferring of degrees will begin with professional degree candidates, then doctoral degree candidates, master’s degree candidates and bachelor’s degree candidates.

The singing of the alma mater will follow, with the recession of stage parties. The university marshal leads the president’s party and will be followed by the deans’ party and faculty.

4:30 p.m.

The ceremony concludes, and family and friends are free to meet the graduates.
