1. Thoughts on the UW’s chances in the Women’s College World Series?
Christian: Better than my chances of finding something to do in between games in Oklahoma City.
Maks: Their chances are as good as any.
Allen: Pretty good.
Honsen: By being the second-highest remaining seed, and with all the WCWS experience on the team — not to mention the presence of pitcher Danielle Lawrie — the Huskies have a pretty good shot to win it all. Plus, with all of the miles that they’ve traveled thus far, the Dawgs should be pretty hardened road warriors by now.
2. Do you think Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy is justified in complaining about the officiating during his team’s series against the Cavs?
Christian: Maybe if they were down 3-0 right now. But come on, Stan. You’re up 2-1 on everyone’s championship favorite. Relax.
Maks: I don’t think there’s ever a time when Van Gundy isn’t griping about something. Still, Cleveland is pretty reliant on the flop. I guess you have to be when your team has the least athletic big men in the league. Mo Williams couldn’t guard Martha Stewart off the dribble, and Ben Wallace’s Defensive Player of the Year days are long gone, so, naturally, they’ve reverted to the flop.
Allen: It’s the playoffs; teams have every right to question and even complain about officiating, especially when every play matters. But c’mon, you’re up on the Cavs, Stan. Give it a rest.
Honsen: What’s there to complain about? The Magic are up 2-1 and lost only by a last-second miracle shot from LeBron James. Bad officiating or not, Orlando is in good position to steal a trip to the NBA Finals.
3. After breaking his big toe in Monday’s game against Oakland, Kenji Johjima is on the disabled list. Is this a sign that the end of his career is in the foreseeable future?
Christian: Yeah, especially with the heavy-hitting Rob Johnson right on his heels.
Maks: I thought Ben Davis’ MLB career was over, too, when he hit .091 for the Mariners and got shipped off to the White Sox in 2004. I was wrong. He’s now a minor league pitching prospect. Go figure.
Allen: His career was over after he hit .220 last year. A toe injury just sidelines him on his quest to strikeout on sliders out of the zone.
Honsen: I wouldn’t stick a fork in Johjima’s career yet. He’s actually been hitting better than he did last season, even though it’s just been 25 games. Besides, it’s not like his backup, Rob Johnson, is doing any better.
4. LeBron James: Human?
Christian: Certainly not.
Maks: Luis Scola: UPS drawing board guy?
Allen: Delonte West: Not ugly?
Honsen: After that aforementioned miracle shot against Orlando, I would have to conclude LeBron is the NBA’s version of the terminator, sent here from the future to eradicate the championship hopes and dreams of all the other teams in the league.
