From stolen wireless devices to grafitti, this weekly crime blotter aims to inform readers about offenses on and surrounding campus. While in-depth articles may be written about specific incidents, this column provides a brief overview of recent crimes that impact the UW community.
Wednesday, May 13
Officers arrived at William Gates Hall after receiving a report that an individual requesting to speak with the dean claimed he would not leave until he spoke with someone. The individual was informed on multiple occasions of the proper procedure for having his request fulfilled via mail.
Thursday, May 14
Authorities contacted a man sleeping in a first-aid station at Husky Stadium. The complainant had forgotten to secure the station at the end of his shift after making repairs. Police gave the suspect an official trespass card, and the man cooperated by leaving the premises.
A suspect stole a wallet with credit cards, IDs and $200 in cash from an unattended bag at the south side of the Allen Library.
Friday, May 15
Meany Hall lost a wireless-network unit when the device was stolen for a loss of $375.
Authorities responded to a victim who claimed that she had been threatened by her spouse during an argument inside their car on campus. The suspect was arrested for harassment and booked into the King County Jail.
Someone ripped the passenger-door mirrors from several vehicles in the N10 parking lot. Officers photographed the damage, which amounted to $450.
Saturday, May 16
Officers contacted a trespasser in Roberts Hall and asked the suspect if she knew the hours of the building that closes on Saturdays and Sundays. The woman stated that she was getting together paperwork and claimed that she was a student. Authorities trespassed the suspect and escorted her from the building.
Sunday, May 17
A woman started yelling at a man disciplining his 5-year-old child at the Waterfront Activities Center. The man used profanity in his discourse with the woman, at which point a male suspect tackled the victim, who fell over his child. Police failed to find the suspect after searching the area.
Vandals spray-painted a 30-foot graffiti tag on a wall of the W45 parking lot and another on the UW Tower. Photographs of the damage will be kept on record.
Monday, May 18
Police responded to a residential burglary that occurred in McCarty Hall and set up containment between McCarty and Hansee halls, but failed to catch the suspects. The victim saw three male suspects running away and noticed that one had a laptop. When he returned to his room where he had been sleeping, the victim found his computer missing. The estimated loss is $300.
