Even when she’s admittedly below average, Danielle Lawrie still manages to be better than everyone else.

But an average outing for Lawrie doesn’t even approach the proper definition of the word.

After a less-than-dominant weekend performance against the Arizona schools, Lawrie was still named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season and eighth in her career.

Lawrie threw every inning of the UW’s win over Arizona and two wins over Arizona State, allowing five runs in 19 innings pitched — stellar numbers, to be sure. But Lawrie said afterward that she didn’t have anywhere near her best stuff, even after throwing a no-hitter against the best offense in the country, blanking Arizona 6-0 to record the third no-no of her career.

She’s 22-3 now this season and is still best in the Pac-10 with a 0.57 ERA.

Ashley Charters was also recognized for her continued battering of Pac-10 pitching, taking home conference Player of the Week honors after capping a 7-for-11 weekend with a walk-off home run Sunday against Arizona State.

Charters is second in the Pac-10 in batting average at .462 and has practically lived on base while stealing 24 bases in 27 attempts. She scored all three of the Huskies’ runs Sunday and is currently riding a career-high 16-game hitting streak.

Charters and Lawrie were also named earlier this season among the 25 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award. Both were All-Americans two seasons ago, when Washington finished third at the Women’s College World Series.
