Battle Royale

1. What are your thoughts on the Seahawks’ NFL Draft selections?

Christian: I was never really high on Mark Sanchez, so I liked the Aaron Curry pick, though I would have preferred that they not draft an offensive lineman from Oregon.

Maks: Like Matt Hasselbeck, I was pretty thrilled with the picks. OK, maybe not quite as thrilled as Hasselbeck.

Allen: Nothing against Mark Sanchez, but I think the Seahawks made the right choice by passing on him and going after an immediate-impact player like Aaron Curry. This guy will give the Hawks some help right off the bat to keep them competitive this year and in the future.

Honsen: Aaron Curry is going to be a key part of either a great or good line backer corps, depending on what the Seahawks decide to do with Leroy Hill. Tim Ruskell’s trading of the Hawks’ second-round pick for the Broncos’ 2010 first-rounder could turn out to be pure genius, especially if the Broncos are as bad as they’re projected to be.

2. What do you think of the Huskies’ new football uniforms?

Christian: I thought they were going to go with a little darker shade of purple, but overall, they’re OK. As long as they win games, I really don’t think people care what they’re wearing. Unless they’re wearing puke-yellow, like that other Pac-10 team.

Maks: They aren’t bad, and from what I gather, the players really like the white-on-white jersey.

Allen: Well, the players seem to like them.

Honsen: As long as they don’t bring along the stink of 0-12, I’m totally fine with them.

3. Are you upset that Senate Bill 6116 appears to be dead?

Christian: Nobody wants to be the one to rally support for a bill that would give $150 million for a stadium renovation while other areas are suffering — which, of course, has nothing to do with the money the UW is trying to get.

Maks: With all of these cuts to education and health care, are sports fans surprised? Granted, these aren’t new taxes and the revenue can’t go toward anything but sports facilities. But as Rep. Ross Hunter, D-Bellevue, told me three months ago: “Legislators tend to be, in some cases, more concerned about the appearance of things than their reality.”

Allen: I have given up hope and have come to the conclusion that Seattle will never, ever get a new NBA team. Ever.

Honsen: It’s a little disappointing, but that doesn’t mean the university can’t find some way to get Husky Stadium fixed up at some point in the future.

4. Do you still think Boston is going to outlast the Bulls?

Christian: No, but I do think Ben Gordon is decent at basketball.

Maks: I hope so, but mainly because the Celtics are the only team that would make for an intruiging matchup with the Cavaliers in the conference finals. Orlando hasn’t shown me anything. The Bulls are obviously on the upswing, though.

Allen: It won’t matter in the end because neither team will get past LeBron and the Cavs.

Honsen: I wouldn’t count out the Celtics just yet. It’s true they don’t have Kevin Garnett, but Boston was in a similar situation last season and ended up beating the Hawks in seven games in the first round on their way to the NBA title.
