A suspect arrested in the April 17 University Way Northeast shooting was released Thursday after charges were not filed within 72 hours of his detention.
Dan Donohoe, press secretary for the prosecuting attorney’s office, said the suspect was released on the evening of April 23 without paying the set bail of $250,000.
According to the Washington court procedure following warrantless arrest, an accused person cannot be detained in jail for more than 72 hours after a preliminary legal appearance.
The suspect was arrested at 8 a.m. Monday, April 20 at the location of the shooting.
The shooting occurred at 8:45 p.m. April 17 at University Way Northeast and Northeast 42nd Street. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center after receiving a bullet wound to the face and is now recovering.
Donohoe confirmed that the Seattle Police Department investigation is ongoing.
