From stolen sunglasses to conflicts on the Ave, this weekly crime blotter aims to inform readers about offenses on and surrounding campus. While in-depth articles may be written about specific incidents, this column provides a brief overview of recent crimes that impact the UW community.
April 15
A broken window was found on the first floor of the Music Building. It does not appear that the window was broken in an attempt to access the room. The estimated damage is $250.
Twenty-three tickets for the Desi Dhamaka show at Meany Hall were stolen from the Husky Union Building. The stolen tickets for the concert on April 18 amount to $230. There are no suspects at this time.
Gucci sunglasses and a GPS system were stolen from a vehicle in the N15 parking lot after the victim supposedly neglected to lock the vehicle.
“People just aren’t securing their vehicles properly by leaving windows cracked and the vehicle unlocked,” said Warren Bresko, a crime prevention officer from the UW Police Department, regarding recent car thefts.
Two men on the 4700 block of University Way N.E. got into an argument that ended with one man striking the other in the face, knocking him to the ground. The victim sustained significant head trauma, and the suspect was not found.
April 16
Officers responded to the odor of marijuana coming from a Stevens Court residence. The inhabitant was uncooperative with authorities, but eventually allowed police to confiscate the substance.
An office chair was stolen from McCarty Hall after it was placed outside to dry. The furniture belonged to the university, and there are no suspects at this time.
April 17
Officers responded to a call regarding a man in the Northlake Building who exposed himself to a woman after he followed her into the restroom. The suspect was found nearby and arrested shortly thereafter.
A man on the 4200 block of University Way N.E. shot another man in the face. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center, and the suspect fled the scene. A suspect was arrested April 20.
April 18
Two vehicles were vandalized in the W29 parking lot. Two iPods, a GPS system and $50 were stolen from the area. The window of a vehicle in the C12 parking lot was shattered earlier in the day with an estimated damage of $300.
“A lot of people keep stuff in their car in open view,” Bresko said. “Criminals are waiting to see what’s in open view that they have access to.”
April 19
Officers responded to a man who received threatening phone calls from someone who stated that he was going to cause harm to the man and his family. No suspect was located.
