Forward Heidi McNeill is the lone fourth-year Husky left on the women’s basketball team, and this weekend’s Friday and Sunday tilts against UCLA and USC will be her last two games at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.

McNeill, who has stated an interest in playing basketball in Europe after her college career ends, hopes that the Huskies (5-18, 1-12 Pac-10) will end their school-record 12-game losing streak this weekend.

“We want it bad, we just want it bad,” McNeill said. “If I had to choose, I would choose Sunday but I would prefer [to just win] this weekend.”

McNeill and fellow senior Michelle Augustavo, a transfer from the University of San Diego, will celebrate senior day Sunday against USC.

Augustavo, who may be pursuing a coaching career after the end of the season, has no qualms about her career.

“I grew up a lot in those two years that I went [to San Diego] and it was a great experience,” she said.

Augustavo suffered an ankle injury in the Oregon State game last weekend but will be ready to play this weekend.

“It’s going to be bittersweet,” Augustavo said. “They’re our last two home games, my last two games in front of my family and friends, so I’m just going to go out and just have a blast.”

UW head coach Tia Jackson said her seniors helped make her transition to the UW two years ago smooth and simple.

“Being hired almost two years ago, it was good to have two veterans like Michelle and like Heidi who understand the game,” Jackson said. “They’ll be sorely missed because when you have leadership like that, it’s almost irreplaceable.”

Jackson said the Huskies will be motivated to win this weekend.

“It’s definitely something that’s in the back of their minds,” Jackson said. “How sweet it would be to send the seniors out in style and a way to thank our fans at the end of the year.”

But the Los Angeles schools, both tied for fourth in the Pac-10, will be looking to spoil the Huskies’ senior day celebrations, and both have already beaten the Huskies earlier this season.

UCLA (15-8, 6-6 Pac-10) beat the Huskies 74-66, while USC (12-11, 6-6 Pac-10) won 90-82 in their game against the UW late last month.
