Washington will face two ranked teams tomorrow in a four-team meet as they host No. 9 Oregon State, No. 14 Illinois and Eastern Michigan. The Huskies enter the weekend ranked No. 24 in the nation.
Last weekend, the Huskies traveled south to face No. 2 UCLA, Boise State and Cal State, Fullerton. Despite earning its second-highest score of the season, Washington finished in third place behind the Bruins and Broncos.
Senior Ashley Houghting has been a solid contributor for the Huskies so far this season, winning her fifth floor title of the season with a 9.900 last weekend. To add to the numbers, Houghting is now fourth in the country on vault with a season average of 9.904.
Washington will likely look to reverse a losing trend against the Beavers — the Dawgs have lost 12 straight meetings against OSU — and will face Illinois and Eastern Michigan teams that have rarely met the Huskies in the past.
Golf
The Huskies placed second at the Hawaiii Intercollegiate two weeks ago and earned a No. 6 ranking from Golfweek for their performance. Now the UW golf team has to maintain its performance against Pac-10 opponent USC early next week.
Washington’s Nick Taylor, Richard Lee and Chris Killmer took the top three spots in Hawaii against top competition. All three are ranked in the top 25.
The UW women’s golf team begins its spring season Feb. 23 at the Arizona Invitational in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.
At the end of the fall season, Golfweek had the Huskies ranked No. 33 and had sophomore Anya Alvarez ranked in the top 50.
Washington now prepares to face a tough Pac-10 schedule that boasts three top-ranked teams: Arizona State, UCLA and USC.
