From stolen family heirlooms to intoxicated students, this weekly crime blotter aims to inform readers about offenses on and surrounding campus. While in-depth articles may be written about specific incidents, this column provides a brief overview of recent crimes that impact the UW community.

Wednesday, Nov. 18

Officers responded to a report of a stolen 1996 Mazda pickup truck in the N5 parking lot. The owner returned to find the vehicle missing. In addition to the vehicle, the loss of the contents is estimated to be $150.

Thursday, Nov. 19

Police received a report that an individual left a cell phone at the Sports Medicine Clinic. When he realized he had left the item, he called the clinic to confirm that it was there. An employee confirmed that the phone was on his desk, and the individual said he would pick it up on Monday. The victim did not retrieve the phone at the arranged time, but he called to confirm that his brother-in-law would come in to pick up the item. After an extensive search, however, the victim was informed that the phone was missing. The estimated loss is $175, and the clinic was advised to move the lost and found and to create a written log for its contents.

Sunday, Nov. 22

Officers stopped a vehicle with expired tabs traveling east on Northeast Pacific Street. The driver did not have his license or registration, and officers discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen at 6:20 a.m. Nov. 22. The suspect confessed that a man on the Ave had given him $15 to drive the car to Capitol Hill. Officers observed that the ignition cover was broken, and the suspect stated that the man had started the car for him. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Monday, Nov. 23

A resident of a campus dorm contacted police to report that a former roommate was harassing her with calls and text messages. The victim stated that she switched rooms because she didn’t feel safe. The victim left the suspect in the care of friends at a party, and the roommate was upset that she left. The suspect said she never threatened the victim and would not contact her in the future. Police determined that no crime was committed.

Authorities received a report of vandalism on the south side of the botany greenhouse. The damage of the painted graffiti is estimated to be $75.

Tuesday, Nov. 24

Graffiti was reported on the pedestrian entry of the triangle parking garage. The estimated damage is $100.

Officers received a report that an unknown suspect stole a wallet from an unsecured office in the Ocean Sciences building. The estimated loss is $20, and the victim was advised to cancel his credit cards.

A woman found a small amount of a substance resembling marijuana in the toilet-paper dispenser in the bathroom of the UWPD. The restroom is adjacent to the room where officers process DUIs, and the substance was destroyed.

Wednesday, Nov. 25

An officer observed two individuals walking past the Ethnic Cultural Center and saw one suspect throw an object against the building. The officer called for routine backup and approached the individuals. The suspects admitted to smoking marijuana in the W11 parking lot and said that a third student had been involved. Officers discovered that the item was a multicolored glass pipe with what appeared to be marijuana residue. Authorities confiscated the item as evidence for destruction.

An individual called the Ceramic and Metal Arts Building, sobbing and making suicidal threats. The recipient of the call contacted authorities, and officers conducted a welfare check at the residence of the woman. She stated that she had been angry and was not feeling well, but that she was not suicidal.

Saturday, Nov. 28

Police approached an individual in an alley on the 4500 block of 17th Avenue Northeast. The man appeared to be carrying an open container of alcohol, which was confirmed to be Coors Light. The suspect told officers that he was on his way to a bar and was trying to save money by drinking beforehand. Officers cited him for having an open container in public.

Officers stopped a woman walking in the 4200 block of Walla Walla Road Northeast with an open container. The suspect admitted that she was drinking alcohol underage, and officers cited her with an MIP.

An individual brought a vial with white powder, found in the E11 parking lot, to authorities during the Apple Cup. Officers field tested the substance and discovered that it was 5.47 grams of methamphetamine, which was taken back to the station as evidence to be destroyed.

A man reported to officers that he had been punched in the face by a woman and another man while watching the football game. The incident occurred after a verbal confrontation, and the suspects fled the scene. The victim had a split lip and a black eye, but he could not give officers a description of the suspects and seemed to slur his speech.

A witness contacted an officer on patrol and said that his friend had been punched in the face. The victim was found bleeding from the mouth with missing teeth, and the Seattle Fire Department responded to administer medical care. The victim said authorities would not be able to find the suspect, and he did not give a written statement before he was transported to Harborview Medical Center. When the officer returned to the scene half an hour later, a second victim said that he had approached the suspect to ask why he had punched the first man, at which point the suspect hit him as well. Due to a lack of information, there are no suspects at this time.

During a time out in the Apple Cup, an individual painted gold with the words “Jake Locker for the Heisman,” ran onto the field and posed in the form of the Heisman trophy. Officers motioned for the man to come off the field, and he complied. The suspect was held at the UW Police Department (UWPD) and said that he was trying to make a statement. He was criminally trespassed from the stadium for the day.

The Heisman guy during the Apple Cup didn't happen during a timeout. It happened while we were kicking the extra point after the touchdown. The PAT was kicked while the guy was on the field.
