Gymnastics

The Husky gymnastics team defeated the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves 192.550-184.650 Friday night. UW took all four events plus the all-around in their 2009 season opener. Ashley Houghting, Kristen Linton, Haley Bogart, Samantha Walior and Karen Cain each won titles in the event.

Houghting turned in a strong 9.800 performance on the vault, earning first place honors for the Huskies. Bogart tied for second place.

Washington also won on bars, with Linton and Cain taking first and second place, respectively.

Three Huskies tied for the title on beam: Linton, Bogart and Hatsune Akaogi each posted a 9.750 in the event. Samantha Walior came in just behind the trio, earning a score of 9.725.

On floor, Houghting took her second title, posting an impressive 9.900. She was followed by Bogart, who took second with a 9.800.

In the all-around, Cain took the title with a 38.450.

Women’s swimming

The Washington women’s swim team topped Oregon State in a dual meet Saturday in Corvallis, Ore. The Huskies improved to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in Pac-10 dual meets.

UW won 11 of 14 races, defeating the Beavers 135-119. Seniors Genevieve Patterson and Lindsey Sharp anchored the team’s victory with two wins each.

Patterson, Sharp, freshman Hannah Ross and junior Erin Campbell took first place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:48.69.

UW dominated the next four events. Sophomore Ashley Daly won the 1,000 free, and Huskies took each of the top three spots in the 200 free.

Campbell and senior Marisa Chang finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 fly, as Sharp secured back-to-back wins in the 50 free and 100 free.

Petra Radovic was the final Husky to emerge victorious, winning the 500 free with a time of 4:57.49.
