Battle Royale

1. Will a convincing win over Stanford Saturday cool down Ty Willingham’s hot seat?

Honsen

It might cool his seat a little bit, but the Huskies will definitely be back on track if they manage to rout Stanford.

Zach

First things first, Ty and the Huskies need this win, but beating Stanford will not save Willingham’s job. To do that, Willingham will have to guide the UW football team to a bowl game. However, a big win over Stanford on the first Saturday of fall quarter will set the school year off right.

Christian

There’s probably not a whole lot at this point that can cool it off to any noticeable degree. But a win over Stanford would certainly do wonders for the team’s confidence and could spur a winning streak with some of the weaker teams in the Pac-10 immediately following. So no, a win probably won’t cool it down a whole lot. Right now, though, a simple glass of ice water would suffice.

The seat is about as hot as it’s going to get, especially if Scott Woodward is serious about not making a decision on Tyrone until the end of the season. Not sure a 70-0 win wipes away the letdown of the first three losses, though.

2Who will win the battle for first pick in next year’s MLB Draft, Seattle, San Diego or Washington?

Honsen

Seattle is looking really good for claiming the first pick of the MLB draft. The Mariners might have a slim “lead” for worst record in the entire league and their latest win breaks their 12-game losing streak, but I firmly believe the Mariners will be able to choke away their final games the way they’ve been doing all season long. That just might be enough for the M’s to overtake perennial doormats, the Washington Nationals.

Zach

The winner will be the first team to 100 ... losses.

Christian

Seattle. Unfortunately, they won a game on Tuesday. But as the old saying goes, ‘you win one, you lose most.’ Or was that ‘you win some, you lose some?’ Nah, that can’t be right ...
