Majority of state’s residents believe

in God

Sixty-four percent of Washington’s residents are “absolutely certain” there is a God, according to a recent survey by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. That’s lower than the nation’s average of 71 percent. Mississippi ranked the highest in the survey, with 91 percent. For complete results, go to http://pewforum.org/.

Charges of

racism against Don Imus, again

Radio host Don Imus again defended charges of racism after he linked a black NFL football player’s past arrests to his race June 22. He said his comments were meant to be sarcastic and illustrate the point that police arrest blacks too often. Imus got in trouble last year for describing players on Rutgers University’s women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hoes.”

Amanda Knox case sent to trial

Former UW student Amanda Knox will soon be on trial in Italy for the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher. The prosecutor closed his investigation June 19 and also charged suspects Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Hermann Guede in the case. All three have been charged with participating in the crime as well as engineering a cover-up.

Final weekend for soccer’s Euro Cup

The UEFA Euro Cup, a soccer tournament that occurs every four years, will conclude Saturday, June 29. Matches between Germany and Turkey June 27 and between Russia and Spain June 28 will decide who will play for the championship on June 29. The UEFA Euro Cup is different from the FIFA World Cup, which is set to occur in 2010 in South Africa.
