LOCAL: The proposed UW College of the Environment was approved the UW Board of Regents on June 12. The exact composition of the college has yet to be decided, but could potentially be the largest in the nation. An anonymous donation of $1 million will enable to college to begin in the fall.
STATE: A new paved road to Cape Flattery, on the Olympic Peninsula, and the most Northwestern point of the United States, is hoped to bring increased tourism to Neah Bay. The Makah Reservation and geographic uniqueness make Cape Flattery an attractive tourist destination.
NATION: The worst flooding in the past 15 years in the Midwest has destroyed crops, raised world food prices and caused billions of dollars of damage. Since last May, the Mississippi River has broken 22 levees. Government aid is expected to $4 billion from a disaster fund.
WORLD: U.S. gas prices are at a record of $4.10 a gallon on average, and prices may start to come down soon. Saudi Arabia has pledged to pump more oil, meaning that prices will decrease.
