Senior T-shirts now on sale

For the past two days, the UW Alumni Association has sold T-shirts on the HUB Lawn to the graduating seniors of 2008.

Sherrylyn Filoteo, Mike Snowden and Buddy Waddington, marketing interns at the UWAA, organized this year’s T-shirt sale to increase turnout.

“Last year’s tabling event was a success, so we decided to stem off from their idea,” Filoteo said. “We wanted to involve as many different groups as possible: the Greek community, HFS cafés, the HUB and By George Newsstand.”

This year, the UWAA has been offering prizes to seniors who purchase the T-shirts. The association has held a buying competition within the UW Greek community to increase student support, Filoteo said.

The T-shirt was specially designed for this year’s graduating class. The logo and design were created by the Alumni Marketing Department.

“It’s an exclusive design for each class year,” Snowden said.

The T-shirts weren’t intented to increase alumni membership, but rather to continue post-baccalaureate relationships between graduating seniors and the University, Filoteo said.

“It’s important for this tradition to continue, for it creates a bridge between the graduating seniors and their potential involvement in the UWAA,” Waddington said. “It instills a long-term pride from the Huskies.”

In its second year, the UWAA hopes the $5 price will attract the attention of students interested in show their senior pride during their last quarter on campus.

Along with tabling on the HUB lawn, the UWAA will be hosting a slew of other events catered to seniors throughout campus, including the annual “Who Gets the Last Word?” lecture given by the teacher of the year, chosen by the graduating class. This year’s candidate is communications professor David Domke. Although the farewell speech is catered toward the class of 2008, anyone is welcome to attend.

Seniors will have another chance to purchase the T-shirts this Thursday at the “Who Gets the Last Word?” lecture at 6 p.m in Kane Hall 220.
