The Terry/Lander Hall Council (TLHC) has a special event planned for UW students. On April 25th students will have the chance to hop aboard a cruise ship and travel around Elliot Bay. “A Night in Barcelona” will feature exotic sounds and exquisite appetizers

“One of the strengths of the UW campus is that there is so much diversity,” said Van Nguyen, publicity manager of the TLHC and marketing and décor coordinator for the event.

In brainstorming themes, Nguyen said the Council wanted to play off of the UW’s diversity and so they chose to showcase Latin culture.

“It was perfect for planning Spring Cruise because it enabled us to offer a different sort of entertainment than just a DJ: salsa dancing. Also, having delicious tapas is definitely a plus,” he said.

The latter two items are the added bonus that differentiates this year’s cruise from last year’s theme, “An Evening With The Stars,” for which UW residents dressed up as stars. This year, if passengers onboard have difficulty with the salsa, dance lessons will be available. To go along with that, appetizers like tapas, a Spanish appetizer will be served when appetites start to grow after being on the dance floor.

Boarding of the ship will take place between 7:30 and 8 p.m. It is imperative that students arrive early so they don’t miss the ship. It is also important to note that this is a residence hall only event; however, residents are allowed to bring one guest each.

As the TLHC’s biggest event of the school year, it was only natural to go big for the sake of fellow students, Nguyen said.

“This event costs multiple times the amount of other events in terms of planning and costs, and because of that, a committee was created to make it as special as possible,” Nguyen said.
