Grow up and get rid of those flip flops – flats are back

Now that the weather is getting nicer, the versatility of your footwear should be expanding as well. While showing a little more leg with skirts and shorts, don’t neglect your feet. They surely deserve a little attention and awakening from their hibernation during the cold winter months. Sure, a rushed decision for springtime shoes might lead to flip-flops to welcome the hotter days, but now that we’re (somewhat) adults, we should start to think outside the box and use our fashionable creativity. For those who are lacking in such departments, I am here to help.

Whether dressing up for a date or dressing down for an afternoon with your friends, flats don't just provide relief from high heels — they look great too.

The first rule when framing your feet in new set of flats or strappy sandals, make sure your toenails and the rest of your feet are well pedicured. When drawing attention to your lower regions, make sure to maintain cleanliness and keep them pampered and fresh. It’s not expensive. Pedicures cost $10 anywhere and the change is exceptional. If you don’t want to go a salon, you can easily do it yourself; just be sure you’re stocked with lotions, clippers, and files.

Now that your feet are shiny and fresh and ready to be shown off, you have to decide what sort of flats to wear this season. Because it’s springtime and the weather is nice, bright colors are obvious. Maroons and yellows with tinges of gold accents are absolutely fabulous choices. If you want to go for an even bolder look, metallics have made a comeback for their second season as fashionable footwear, and solid gold flats with a bit of a peep-toe can make a strong statement.

For the type of girl who doesn’t wish to blow the rest out of the water with her shoes and wants a more subtle look, solid black flats can solidify the perfect trendy outfit. You don’t have to make it completely bland, however. A single strap over the foot can accent just enough for the shoe without overdoing it.

Flip-flops and thongs should be avoided, but don’t confuse them with strappy sandals — there is a difference. Multicolored metallic strappy sandals can splash up any summery ensemble. Colors such as purple, turquoise, pink, and yellow can brighten up a simple white spring dress or a beige skirt.
