Crafters are sexy people who can use their hands to make things — and can probably use those same hands to make you hot.
Not only have handicrafts proliferated in the past few years, there has been a rise of handmade sex toys, lingerie and even genitalia.
That’s right, genitalia. Patterns for knitted vaginas, wombs and penises (not to mention penis cozies) can be found all over the Internet and are quite popular. Though presenting your lady-love with a hand-knit womb may not help you score, it will definitely get a laugh — and humor is always high on the list of desirable qualities in a mate.
On the subject of scoring, there are several new books that include patterns for knitted panties, bras and slips. I have heard of edible panties knitted out of Twizzlers, but never having tried it, I can’t recommend it as a last-minute gift. If you want to try this, give yourself plenty of time for battles with melting candy and the chance that you may eat all of your supplies.
Edible body oil is easy to make and even easier to share. Choose a base oil such as almond, macadamia nut or apricot kernel and add vanilla, orange or peppermint extract, which can be conveniently found in the baking aisle, where you can also pick up those Twizzlers — and maybe some chocolate.
If that isn’t enough, “Make Your Own Sex Toys: 50 Quick and Easy Do-It-Yourself Projects” by Juliet Bawden and Matt Pagett contains not only clear instructions on how to make everything from a cell phone vibrator to chocolate body paint and whips, but also a history of sex toys. Did you know that American inventor George Taylor was the first to create a steam-powered vibrator? And that it was prescribed to ease women of female “hysteria?” I didn’t think so. The book itself would be a great gift — throw in some edible “lotions and potions” and you’ll be able to make it with almost anyone.
