The Supreme Court dealt a setback Tuesday to privacy advocates who oppose the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. The justices, without comment, turned down an appeal from the American Civil Liberties Union to let it pursue a lawsuit against the program that began shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Using a soda can as an ashtray can be very expensive. Damage from a fire that spread from a burning soda can in a Vancouver, Wash. resident’s backyard has been estimated at more than, $100,000.

Check out books at the library, and you might learn a stranger’s darkest secret. UW students involved with the CampusSecret project are deciding whether to tuck those secrets into dusty pages of books you would usually overlook at the library.

Australian scientists have discovered previously unknown creatures on the sea floor in the Antarctic. The creatures include giant spiders and worms, among other animals that are entirely different from anything ever seen before.
