On Thursday morning, Caitlin Olson-Johnson, a junior in the Pi Beta Phi sorority, suffered an epileptic seizure and was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Despite treatment, Olson-Johnson passed away on Friday night due to complications caused by the seizure.
“Please keep Caitlin’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” wrote Siobahn Loyd, president of Pi Beta Phi, in an e-mail Saturday morning sent to chapter presidents in the Greek community.
The sorority has placed a message on its front door stating that it is not accepting visitors at this time and requesting the public be respectful of its situation.
It is not yet clear what triggered the seizure, nor has it been released what complications led to Olson-Johnson’s death.
A coroner’s report is expected to be released to the public today after 3 p.m.
A candlelight vigil was held in Olson-Johnson’s honor Saturday evening at Skyview Junior High in Bothell.
She graduated from Bothell High School in 2006, and friends say she had wanted to become a special education teacher.
“Caitlin was one of the most passionate people I know and made an impact on everyone she met,” said one girl who went to high school with Johnson and wished to remain anonymous. “She was always there for her family, and touched many lives. Caitlin is going to be greatly missed.”
