Over the weekend, two Washington teams went to Pullman but only one emerged with a victory. The UW volleyball team extended their winning streak to seven matches Friday when they defeated WSU in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14).
As a team, the Huskies hit an astounding .451, almost a full hundred points higher than the Cougars’ .362, leading the Dawgs to their 12th straight victory over the Cougars.
The Huskies out-killed the Cougars 133-116 and were kept on top by the 27 kills and .490 hitting percentage of sophomore Becky Perry who led the game in both categories. Two other Huskies also had double-digit kill performances. Kindra Carlson contributed 16 on .407 hitting and Jill Collymore added 15 while hitting .423. All Huskies hit above .400.
Sophomore setter Jenna Hagglund inched ever closer to fifth place on the all-time Husky assist list, now only 52 away from fifth and 83 away from fourth place.
Tamari Miyashiro led the Husky defensive effort with a match high 19 digs while Megan McAffee chipped in 11 — her season high. Miyashiro also continued her success serving; she landed two aces to make this her third consecutive multi-ace match.
The Huskies will play their last regular season matches at home this Thanksgiving weekend Friday against Arizona and Saturday against Arizona State.
UW coach Jim McLaughlin said the Dawgs will continue to prepare for upcoming games — including a likely NCAA berth.
“The way we look at it is we have eight practices left,” McLaughlin said. “We’re going to try to improve as much as we can in that time.”
