The 12-3 Husky volleyball team continues its battle for first place this weekend as they head to Pullman for their last regular season road match. In the conference, the Huskies currently sit 2.5 games behind a Stanford team that can clinch the Pac-10 title this week with wins over No. 10 USC and No. 9 UCLA.
If Stanford loses two of their next four games, the Huskies could move into first. But to do that, they’ll have to beat rival WSU tonight. The 8-18 Cougars are struggling this season with only one Pac-10 win, but they can still ruin Washington’s shot at first place.
The last time these two teams faced each other, the Huskies swept the Cougars (25-17, 25-13, 25-17) — part of an 11-game winning streak against WSU.
Washington will look to sophomore setter Jenna Hagglund to run their offense against WSU. Hagglund had a solid two games last weekend against Oregon State and Oregon, earning her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season.
To top it off, Hagglund reached a new career milestone of 2,511 assists — the sixth highest of any setter in UW history. Hagglund has the chance to move up to fourth in the all-time Husky record book if she can manage another 145.
Hagglund isn’t the only Husky with a chance to make records this season. Senior Jessica Swarbrick is only 14 blocks short of passing Husky great Darla Myhre for third place on the all-time list. Swarbrick needs another 24 block assists to pass Myhre for third place in that category as well.
Junior Tamari Miyashiro is 273 digs short of becoming the second Husky in school history to reach the 2,000 dig plateau. The only other Husky to reach that number was Candice Lee, who holds the Husky career record with 2,038.
Next weekend the Huskies will play Arizona and Arizona State at home to close out their regular season.
