The undefeated Washington men’s swim team (5-0) will be put to the test today in Berkeley, Calif. at Spieker Aquatics Complex as it takes on the California Golden Bears (1-0).

The men’s swimming team makes an appearance at the football game Saturday against Notre Dame. The team members, who showed up in only swimwear, had letters painted on their chests and backs that spelled out “Men’s Swimming!”
Headlining the Golden Bears’ roster is gold medalist Nathan Adrian, who was a part of the United States’ record-setting 4x100-meter freestyle relay in Beijing.
In the Bears’ most recent meet against Pacific, Adrian won three events, including the 50-meter freestyle (in which he earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 19.77 seconds).
The Huskies’ main contender against Adrian will be junior David Bai, who most recently won all three of his freestyle events (50-, 100- and 200-meter distances) in Washington’s sweep over Seattle University and British Columbia. However, Bai’s 50-meter time, 21.38, is greater than Adrian’s, who will have a major obstacle in front of him to earn points against the Dawgs.
For the relays, Washington’s top team will again have its work cut out for it.
On the women’s side, the team is not going into today’s meet with as strong a record (3-2) as the men, but it will be using momentum they’ve gained recently.
Among the Cal swimmers is Sara Isakovic, another medalist from Beijing.
She will swim the 500-meter freestyle against Washington’s fastest swimmer in the event, sophomore Ashley Daly, who is followed closely by senior Petra Radovic. All three should be contenders to watch in the freestyle relays.
Though California is a favorite in both teams’ first Pac-10 dual meet of the season, the Huskies have an undefeated streak to defend on the men’s side as well as veterans on the women’s team, who won’t go down easily.
