UW student victim of assault

A female UW student remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center, where she was transported as the victim of an apparent physical assault yesterday morning.

The student arrived in her vehicle at the north entrance of campus on Northeast 45th Street, where she requested medical assistance from a UW parking attendant. The attendant noticed the female had a serious head injury and called 911.

It appears the victim was struck by a male.

“We’ve had a number of witnesses come forward,” UWPD Chief Ray Wittmier said. “The incident most likely occurred at Northeast 47th [Street] and 18th [Avenue] Northeast.”

Wittmier said that the UWPD will be working with the Seattle Police Department to find the culprit, who is still at large.

“We’re still very concerned that this person is out there,” he said.
