Animal smugglers from a zoo at a Brazilian university stole seven rare albino alligators. The alligators, worth nearly $10,000 apiece, vanished last week from the Federal University of Mato Grosso.

The unusual tropical glaciers found on Mount Jaya in New Guinea are in full retreat, sparking concern that their unique geological history will be lost.

The Vatican has announced that Roman Catholic and Muslim representatives will meet in Rome sometime this spring for an interfaith dialogue. Pope Benedict proposed the conference after he received an open letter from 138 Muslim scholars.
