Thursday, Jan. 31

7:30 p.m. — Pacific Northwest Ballet — For the first time on the West Coast, Jean-Christophe Maillot’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic love story will be presented in a three-act performance with the premier of Roméo et Juliette. PNB will feature a special $15 7:30 p.m. show tomorrow for those under the age of 25. $20-$150. Additional performances through Feb. 10.

7:30 p.m. — Seattle Repertory Theatre — Richard Seyd brings the bittersweet love story By the Waters of Babylon to the Leo K. Theatre. The tale, crafted by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan, portrays the story of a widow and her gardener, and how “the hot Texas day turns hotter as these two exiles share a drink and a dance, and tell each other stories to keep the shadows away.” $10-$40. Additional performances through March 2.

7:30 p.m. — HUB Auditorium — The ASUW presents a sneak peak at the upcoming tongue-twisting, Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights, Hollywood to the Heartland Tour. See page 12 for more information.

7:30 p.m. (show) – On the Boards — In another performance marking a Northwest first this week, Romeo Castellucci directs the Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio production Hey Girl! $24. Additional performances through Feb. 3.

7:30 p.m. — The Cabaret Theater in Hutchinson Hall — The Undergraduate Theater Society presents Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, directed by Ryan W. Jones. Play runs through Feb. 10. $5 for UW students.

Friday, Feb. 1

7:30 p.m. — Seattle Public Theatre — Written by Richard Greenberg and directed by Aimee Bruneau, the award winning Three Days of Rain comes to the Northwest after “after its sold-out run in New York (featuring Julia Roberts).” The play features three actors who not only play characters in the present day, but those of their parents during three live altering days of rain. $15-$24. Additional performances through Feb. 24.

7:30 p.m. (doors) — Showbox SoDo — Mike Thrasher and 99.9 KISW present Tesla and Cinder Road. 21+. $27.50 advanced, $32 day of show and at the door.

Saturday, February 2

8 p.m. — University Christian Church — Northwest soprano Andrea Frey will join pianist Franz Moser of Siena, Italy, and baritone Andrea Borghini of Florence, Italy, in a benefit concert just down the street from the UW. Proceeds go to ROOTS, a U-District shelter for young adults, and Hoffmann House for Women. $10 for students.

8 p.m. (doors) — Showbox at the Market: Monchy & Alexandra and Coffee Band. All ages (bar w/ID). $38 advanced, $50 day of show and at the door.

9 p.m. (show) — Skylark Café and Club — While enjoying a tiki art showcase opening by Portland artist Jason Powell, be sure to catch performances by The Milkman’s Daughter’s, Stella by Starlight and Nine N Out. 21+. Free.

Sunday, Feb. 3

7:30 p.m. — Ethnic Cultural Theatre­ — The UW School of Drama presents Wild Black-Eyed Susans, the tale of differing two sisters living “on the edge of poverty in rural West Virginia.” Additional performances through Feb 17. $8-$15.

7:30 p.m. — Meany Studio Theatre — In the second of three productions for the month, the UW School of Drama also presents a comedy of “disguise, mistaken identity, false pretenses and unique surprises” in She Stoops to Conquer. $8-$15. Additional performances through Feb. 17.

Monday, Feb. 4

7:30 p.m. — Benaroya Hall — As part of the Seattle Arts and Lectures: Literary Lecture Series, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mary Oliver will be performing in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium. $22-$36.

7:30 p.m. — The Triple Door: Brian Berg will be opening for alternative country artist, and founding member of legendary punk band X, John Doe. All ages. $18 advanced, $20 day of show.

8 p.m. (show) — Moore Theatre — Sarah Bareilles will open for singer/songwriter/recent pop phenomenon James Blunt. All ages. $30-$45.

9 p.m. (show) —The Comedy Underground — An open mic night “for professional and amateur comedians to test new material and to develop their acts.” All ages (bar w/ID). $5.

9 p.m. (doors), 10 p.m. (show)—El Corazon­ — Infinite Productions presents Scott Kelly of Neurosis, Eugene Robinson of Oxbow, and Bruce Lamont of Yakuza. 21+. $10 advanced.

Tuesday, Feb. 5

7:30 p.m. (show) —The Paramount — STG presents spoken word artist Jill Scott, who will be performing as part of her Real Thing Tour, and special guest Raheem DeVaughn. All ages. $43.50 - $53.50.

8 p.m. (doors) — Chop Suey —Stencil, The Quiet Ones and Fresh Cherries From Yakima. 21+. $6.

Wednesday, Feb. 6

7:30 p.m. —Town Hall — Famed travel guide Rick Steves presents a tour hour illustrated lecture on getting the most out of a European vacation in “Europe Through the Back Door 2008.” All ages. Free.

9 p.m. — The Tractor Tavern —The tavern presents a night of “ americana, alt-country and greaseball rock n’ roll” with Dallas Alive, Widower and Jack Wilson. 21+. $6.
