Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi will be in Seattle tonight campaigning for the votes of young Republicans at an event hosted by MoveRed.org. The gubernatorial election is Nov. 4.
Rossi ran against Gov. Gregoire in 2004, losing by 129 votes.
Rossi raised more than $600,000 in December and will be crisscrossing the state during February raising money for his election campaign.
“This may be the only opportunity that young people will have to discuss issues in such a personal way with the future governor,” UW College Republican President Tom Walker wrote in an e-mail.
MoveRed.org, which is funded by the King County Republican Party, is a youth-oriented political group that hopes to encourage young people to become involved in the GOP.
“Young adults in King County need to know that you do not have to be a liberal Democrat to be successful or respected,” according to the MoveRed.org Web site. “We have lived through the pressure from liberal teachers and professors to succumb to lazy ideology, and we are here to fight that.”
MoveRed.org aims to register as many “young conservatives” as possible for the elections in November.
The UW College Republicans will also be hosting a number of future speakers, including Attorney General Rob McKenna, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, and Washington Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser.
Attendees must register at www.kcgop.org/DinoFundraiser. The event is $25 for students and $50 for non-students.
