Movies opening today:
Meet the Spartans: In the spirit of Epic Movie, Date Movie and other halfhearted parodies of the recent past, Meet the Spartans goes one step further, spoofing nearly every famous movie, TV show, celebrity and pop culture phenomenon of the last two years, all vaguely to the plot of last year’s blockbuster film, 300. This film features what may be the year’s most extensive list of second-string celebrities: Kevin Sorbo, Carmen Electra, Method Man, and Diedrich Bader. Rated PG-13.
Untraceable: One of the leading FBI investigators of cyber crime, Special Agent Jennifer Marsh must track down a serial killer who tortures his victims with Saw-inspired contraptions and then murders them based on how many hits his graphic Web site acquires. Starring Diane Lane, Collin Hanks, Joseph Cross and Billy Burke. Rated R.
Rambo: Sylvester Stallone returns as John Rambo after an almost 20 year hiatus for the series. After successfully renewing the action superstar’s other franchise in 2006 with Rocky Balboa, one can only hope that the latest addition, which pits the vigilante veteran against the Burmese army in a fight for a group of human rights workers, is equally as impressive. Rated R.
8 p.m. (doors) — Neumos: Fresh off it’s recent tour with legendary rock group The Smashing Pumpkins, The Bravery returns to Seattle today, along with the London-based indie group Switches. All ages (bar w/ID). $15 advanced.
8 p.m. (show) — ACT Theater: Members of the Seattle Dance Project will be performing four world premiere acts in Project One. All ages. $25. Additional showings on Jan. 26 and 27.
8 p.m. (show) — Giggles: The comedy club will be hosting Rich Vos, a comedian who has not only appeared on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and Last Comic Standing, but has, according to the venue’s website, “one of the highest rated half hour specials on Comedy Central.” All ages. $15. Additional 10 p.m. showing for each night’s performance.
Midnight — Egyptian Theatre: By the power of Greyskull, here comes the Fuzz. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost play two police officers in a spoof of nearly every famous cop movie in last year’s hilarious British comedy Hot Fuzz. R.
