Huskies ready to take on Beavers

Share

The Washington gymnastics team will head to Corvallis, Ore., today to take on the No. 16 Oregon State Beavers at 7 p.m. This will be the Huskies’ second road match of the season after falling to the No. 15 Denver Pioneers last weekend in Colorado.

While the Huskies may be the underdogs going into the meet, they have reason to keep their spirits high. The last time these two teams faced each other, Washington tallied its highest total team score of the season and posted its highest team scores on beam and floor. While they lost to the Beavers 196.600 to 193.625, the Huskies put up a strong performance, led by junior Ashley Houghting with 9.925 on vault.

Oregon State opened its season at the Lady Luck Invitational in Las Vegas Jan. 4 against Pac-10 rivals UCLA and ASU. The meet was a close one, with UCLA taking the win at 194.975, OSU coming in second with 193.875 and ASU in third with 192.475.

The Washington-OSU duel will mark just the second of the many matchups against ranked opponents that the Huskies will face this season. Much like the Washington football team, the Huskies have one of the toughest schedules in the nation both on the road and at home. Not only will Washington have to size itself up against the Pac-10, one of the best conferences in the country, but it will also have to compete against four non-conference rivals who are ranked in the top 25.

The battle with the Beavers will air on FSN four times on tape delay. TV listings have the match airing Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m.
