Thursday, January 17

7 p.m. (doors) — Sky Church — part of EMP’s Jazz in January event, Tomorrow’s Pride showcases local talent from two Seattle high schools. Both the Roosevelt Jazz Band and the Garfield Jazz Ensemble will be performing. $7 EMP/SFM members, $10 general public.

7:30 p.m. (doors), The Triple Door — KGRG presents a cabaret, new wave opera show by Carrie Clark, the Lonesome Lovers and headlined by Vagabond Opera. All ages. $17 adv, $20 day of show.

Friday, January 18

Movies Opening Today:

Aliens, Godzilla or even Voltron; since the first trailer five months ago, J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield has left viewers in suspense as to what the movie is actually about, only revealing that it is a documentary-styled film of “something” attacking New York City, and five New Yorkers’ attempt to escape the horrifying events. PG-13.

After costarring in last year’s comedy Knocked Up, Katherine Heigl returns to the genre in 27 Dresses as Jane, a seemingly permanent bridesmaid for her friends and family, who attempts to change her lifestyle after finding out that she may lose the man she’s secretly in love with. Also starring James Marsden and Edward Burns. PG-13.

Another comedy, Mad Money, stars Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes as “three ordinary women who form an unlikely friendship and decide to do something extraordinary — rob one of the most secure banks in the world.” [Yahoo! Movies]

7 p.m., Seattle Public Theatre at the Bathhouse — Amadeus. The theater presents the classic story based loosely on the lives and rivalry of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri Amadeus. Additional showings on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. Free.

7 p.m. (doors) — HUB North Den —The Cool Kids, DJ Risk One, One Be Lo and Dyme Def. 21+. $5 w/UW ID, $10 for the general public.

7:30 p.m. — Capitol Hill Arts Center Showroom — in Mike Daisy’s Monopoly! the comedian, actor and author, presents a rambling routine which covers everything from electrocuted elephants to Wal-Mart, and everything in between. Additional showings through March 3. All ages. $20 adv, $25 at the door.

7:30 p.m. —The 5th Avenue Theatre – SPOTLIGHT NIGHT lets viewers have a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming performance of Mame. Artistic Director, David Armstrong will lead the audience through exploring “the celebrated Broadway musicals of Mame’s legendary composer and lyricist, Jerry Herman, including Hello, Dolly! and La Cage aux Folles,” according to the 5th Avenue Theatre’s website Free, admission guaranteed through online registration at www.5thavenue.org.

9 p.m. (doors) — Neumos – what art show would be complete without a multitude of hip hop acts and a modeling competition? You couldn’t ask for more from Artifakt’s Graffiti Art Show with performances by The Inscrypshun, Life Cycle featuring the Teaching, the New Law, DJ Sean Cee and Scarub of the Living Legends. Add the nonprofit art group’s second model body painting contest, with the winners decided by the audience, and you have a night of art and music to rival any Bumbershoot sitting. 21+. $10 adv, $12 dos.

Saturday, January 19

Noon-2 p.m. — Nordstrom Art Studio (SAM) — Mappa Mundi Workshop — Think Tank artist-in-residence Hirokazu Kosaka helps those attending the event create a series of hand-drawn maps describing their childhood for an upcoming display. Free with museum admission.

8 p.m. (doors) — Neumos – Neumos and Club Pop present: The Teenagers, The Pharmacy, DJ F.I.T.S., Sam Rousso Sound System and Glitterpants. 21+. $10 adv.

8 p.m. (doors) — Showbox SoDo — Epidemic Music presents: Sunderlyn, Madison Drive, PC Load Letter, and Abbotfinney. 21+. $7 adv, $10 day of show and at the door.

8 p.m. (doors) — Showbox at the Market — Epidemic Music presents: Down North, Doxology and Good Touching. 21+. $7 adv, $10 dos and at the door.

9 p.m. (doors) — Chop Suey — the Seattle amalgam punk group Kultur Shock, along with the Ladybird Unition and Police Teeth comprise one of several Crocodile Café shows picked up by Chop Suey, in the wake of the club’s recent unexpected closure. 21+. $10 adv.

Sunday. January 20

3 p.m. (doors) — Meany Hall — The Seattle Philharmonic presents three masterpieces, including works by Schubert, Weill and Haydn. All ages. $18 adult, $10 senior/student.

5:30 p.m. (doors)/ 6:30 p.m. (show) — El Corazon — Dimm, Forest of Grey, Slutvomit, Immortal Divination, Drakul, Corporal Mortification and Dybbuk present a benefit show for the man known as the Father of Death Metal, Chuck.

8:30 p.m. (doors) — Chop Suey — Chop Suey, Neumo’s and 90.3 KEXP present Expansions: a live radio broadcast featuring Riz, Masa, and Kid Hops. 21+. $7, or free for KEXP members with valid KEXP membership card.

8:30 p.m. (show) — The Comedy Underground — “The best Seattle comedians compete to perform at the Great American Comedy Festival at the Johnny Carson Museum,” according to Comedy Underground’s Web site. All ages (bar w/ID). $5
