A UW alumnus offered to pledge a minimum of $100,000 to the UW School of Law within 90 days if UW football coach Tyrone Willingham is fired, according to an article published yesterday in The Seattle Times.
Ed Hansen, a multi-millionaire and three-time mayor of Everett, Wash., allegedly corresponded via e-mail with UW President Mark Emmert and pledged an additional $100,000 upon the termination of now resigned athletic director Todd Turner.
“By this letter I hereby pledge to contribute a minimum of $100,000 towards a law school scholarship within 90 days, conditioned upon the termination of Ty Willingham as football coach,” according to the e-mail, which also offered another $100,000 for Turner’s dismissal.
Turner’s resignation takes effect Jan. 31; however, Willingham’s retention was announced Dec. 5.
When pressed as to whether Hansen would follow through on his pledge, he responded “I think, as you and I are talking, I will go ahead with the $100,000 I mentioned,” reported The Times.
