Doctoral Student Nseobong Ekpo is the conductor for the UW’s Summer Orchestra. The orchestra will be performing Thursday August 2 at 7pm in Kane Hall 130.
Some highlights of the concert will be the vocal performances, student conductor Nseobong Ekpo predicted.
Soloists Tess Altiveros, Teresa Lewis, Margaret Gordon and Ellen Pepin will sing Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro” and selected arias with the orchestra.
The program also includes “Serenade No. 1” by Johannes Brahms, “Three Bears’ Suite” by Eric Coates and “Party Piece” by Richard Rodney Bennett.
The Summer Orchestra concert will be a slightly different experience from UW Orchestra performances during the year because of the group’s size.
“It’s more of a chamber orchestra, as many people are out of town on vacation,” Ekpo said.
Though there are fewer students on campus, Ekpo hopes to draw a large audience to the performance.
“To grab people during the summer when they’re vacationing and to make a meaningful musical experience — that’s always nice,” Ekpo said.
The concert, which begins at 7 p.m., should appeal to many with its wide showcase of different kinds of music.
“It’s built as a potpourri concert — there’s something for everyone,” Ekpo said.
