There is a massive fashion footwear phenomenon that has been sweeping the world that rooted from the country-continent of Australia. I'm sure you have heard of them — they're called UGG boots. For those who do not know what they are (if that is even possible), allow me to inform: a boot, the shaft of which is about 7.5 inches, the outer material made of an often camel-colored suede while the inner of sheepskin, topped off with a rounded toe.
Now you may be asking — why are they worth discussing? Well, it has come to my attention that these boots (which are technically slippers) have been misused since their arrival. I feel obligated to inform of the proper way to wear these boots effectively, while offering simple and affordable alternatives for your feet so they're not sweltering in a pair of sheepskin slippers in the warmer spring climate.
Let me help clarify something: UGG boots are, first and foremost, slippers. Yes, the word "boot" is in the official title, but that's only because of the shape; the material, however, is composed of suede and sheepskin. I don't know about you, but I see more slippers made of such material than boots.
The appropriate attire accompanied with such slippers should be pajama pants and a sweatshirt with messy hair. Not a cute denim miniskirt with a complementing tank top and full hair and makeup, which, unfortunately, seems to be the case majority when it comes to these "boots."
Junior Katie Furia says that they're "bulgy and unflattering" and that "the pink and blue ones look more ridiculous than the classic brown."
Sophomore Naomi Green owns two pairs and says she "only wears them with casual outfits, like jeans and a sweatshirt."
Yes, they're comfortable, but walking through campus and seeing girls with skirts or nice jeans and cute tops, then looking down to see two big brown feet is just unsettling. If you have the time to do your hair and makeup and organize an outfit, you should have the time to pick out a decent pair of shoes. Heels, flats, even flip-flops work so much better than a pair of UGGs, and if it's warm enough to wear a miniskirt, a pair of sandals won't leave your feet sweating like pigs.
However, if you woke up 10 minutes before your first class of the day, a pair of UGGs would be a perfect match to your track pants, Husky sweatshirt and messy hair. You're comfortable and don't care what you look like — that's the name of the game here, sister.
Also, if you can afford a pair of UGGs that run easily more than $100, you can afford a pair (if not two...) of shoes that would work better with your outfit. A pair of Nine West peep-toed pumps costs $74.95 and flats range from $30-50 with a huge variety of colors, all at Nordstrom. Not only is this economically efficient for your spring/summer wardrobe budget, but it'll help solve the question as to what to wear on your feet to complete your fashionably conscious outfits.
So, ladies, when giving yourself that extra hour or so before classes to pick out that cute spring outfit you've been waiting for all winter, do yourself a fashionable favor and pick out a befitting pair of shoes that will bring it all together, rather than your pair of UGGs, which will break it all apart.

Ben, I'm assuming you're a guy. I'm also assuming you've never walked around in Nine West peep toed shoes. Give it a try and THEN maybe you'll be entitled to write an article on what constitutes acceptable female footwear.

It was pointed out to me during a recent conversation about UGGs that they look like foreskin for legs. And well...the next day when I saw someone wearing them I could not agree more! I will never look at these "boots" the same! Nor will I ever own some!
