Man found dead in U-District apartment

Christopher Reynolds, 30, was found dead in a U-District apartment on the 4200 block of Latona Avenue Northeast at about 10 a.m. Saturday.

Reynolds was the victim of a stabbing several days before his body was found.

However, the cause of his death has not been ruled a homicide, nor has it been attributed to the stabbing.

"We actually ruled that it was not a homicide," said Renee Witt, spokeswoman of the Seattle Police Department.

"We've turned over jurisdiction to the medical examiner's office for further investigation."

Witt said that although Reynolds was involved in a dispute and stabbed May 14, he was treated at a university hospital for his wounds and was later released.

Though the police have been investigating the incident and are still attempting to identify the stabber, Reynolds refused to cooperate in the investigation.

"At this point, there is an incident report," Witt said. "It pretty much is an open investigation."

The King County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the name and age of Reynolds, but declined to comment on the condition of his body upon its discovery or any developments in the ongoing investigation.

Reynold's body was discovered several days after his death.

"Apparently, two neighbors noticed an odor coming from the apartment," Witt said. "They called an apartment manager, who then looked in the window and spotted the body.

"The apartment manager called 911 and [the SPD] contacted [the] Seattle Fire [Department]." Witt said. "They responded and made entry into the apartment. They confirmed that he was D.O.A. (dead on arrival) and had been for several days."

Lab results determining the cause and manner of Reynolds' death are still pending.
