For seniors who may be looking for a final chance to sport their Husky pride before becoming alumni, the first annual Senior Tee Off T-shirt sale will be held on the HUB lawn from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., today and tomorrow.
The Class of 2007 T-shirts cost $5 and come with a free Rockstar energy drink with each purchase. T-shirt-buying seniors will also be entered into a drawing to win prizes.
So far, sales to the Greek community and through the online store have gone well, and the UW Alumni Association (UWAA) expects the HUB lawn sale to be just as successful.
Prizes include a pair of 2007 Husky football season tickets, an autographed Seahawks football jersey, a UW basketball signed by coach Lorenzo Romar, a gift card to the University Book Store, Jet City Improv and Twisted Flicks gift certificates, a Kaplan gift certificate and a Grad Pack life membership.
The graphic design department at the Alumni House designed the T-shirts, with some modifications made by a few student interns.
"We had an in-house designer pitch us a design, and then we tweaked the layout to match our budget," UWAA Marketing Intern Tom Loe said. "We were trying to keep things low budget to make the shirts affordable for the senior class, and we're not making a profit off of this."
Courtney Acitelli, UWAA alumni relations manager, hopes the low price will be an incentive.
"They're only five bucks, so seniors should show their pride at graduation year," she said. "This is the first year we've done something like this, and we'd definitely like to make it annual."
Acitelli also said shirts may come with more benefits than have been explicitly stated.
"People wearing the shirts may be treated with free water bottles and other things when wearing them around campus and at UW-related events," she said. "And they may also get priority lineup at certain events."
Loe hopes the class of 2007 will take advantage of the chance to flaunt their Husky pride.
"This is a great opportunity for seniors to show their pride and should be popular at such an affordable cost," Loe said.
