Griego's death spurs Emmert threat

Last month, President Mark Emmert received an e-mail threatening his life from an anonymous sender accusing him of failing to protect Rebecca Griego, the 26-year-old UW staff member killed April 2 in Gould Hall, police reported.

Emmert told the police about the e-mail at the end of April, said Norm Arkans, director of media relations and communications at the UW.

"It was just turned over to the police, and he went on to regular University business," Arkans said. "I mean, that's all you can do, right?"

According to The Associated Press, the e-mail, which was traced back to Colorado, was received in Emmert's personal UW e-mail address that is given only to close, inside individuals at the UW.

"They've got a search warrant out to find this person, and I believe they're actively trying to do that," Arkans said.

The investigation is ongoing.
