QUEEN ANNE: Macrina Bakery

Share

Macrina is known to Queen Anne, Belltown and Vashon locals as the go-to for pastries and specialty breads — like the German-style Vollkorn or their signature Macrina Casera. A staff member from Queen Anne Books advised the Orange Hazelnut Pinwheel or Morning Roll, but both pastries sell out quickly. They are called the Special Breakfast Pastries for a reason; the trick is to get there before 11 a.m.

Macrina is also known as a place to get great cakes, be it for birthdays or weddings. Although a small selection of their whole breads are available at Whole Foods, it’s definitely worth it to venture out to their store on 6th Avenue West and West McGraw Steet for the huge variety of breakfast pastries.

Among more than 20 pastries, the rocket muffin, lemon lavender coffeecake, citrus oat scone and cinnamon monkey bread are too good for words.
