The Daily Battle Royale

Last week's winner: Justin Chartrey

Who is your No. 1 pick in the NFL draft? Is JaMarcus Russell worth the hype?

Metzler: The Raiders actually might look to trade down. But if they picked first, they would probably choose JaMarcus Russell from LSU just because they need a quarterback, unless they can trade and get Daunte Culpepper. You never know what will happen in the next few days; it's the NFL draft, anything can change.

Caple: Obviously, my No. 1 pick would be former Husky defensive back Matt Fountaine. The Raiders' offense is embarrassing; if they pick some equally terrible defensive players, maybe people will stop making fun of how bad their offense is. And I don't know if JaMarcus Russell is worth all the hype, but I do know that he is a rather large man.

Chartrey: For me it doesn't get any better this year than offensive tackle Joe Thomas. The man is built like a house and will have about a 20-year career. Besides, I can totally fall in line with a guy who would rather be out fishing with his old man than sitting in a suit in a green room at the draft waiting to put on a hat. Yippee.

Mayers: Calvin Johnson is my pick. I'm pretty sure he's a direct descendent of Zeus or William Wallace, one of the two. And is Russell worth the hype? I'll say no, because I didn't even know he was a major prospect until his senior year. But I'm not a direct descendent of Mel Kiper Jr., so who knows?

How many Huskies will get drafted this year?

Metzler: At most I think one will get drafted, and that would be Isaiah Stanback. He is just an all-around naturally talented athlete. He is versatile, and that's what teams are looking for. With good size, a strong arm and fast feet he can only improve.

Caple: One. Matt Fountaine. We've been over this. But I guess Isaiah Stanback, Sonny Shackelford, Dashon Goldson, C.J. Wallace and a couple others have a shot, too.

Chartrey: Two. But if I had it my way, it would be three. Isaiah Stanback and Dashon Goldson are no-brainers in my book, but the guy I think is getting overlooked is C.J. Wallace. In case Husky fans have forgotten, Wallace led the team in tackles and bone-jarring hits last year. Just ask Ryan Torain how hard he lays into people. Actually, never mind — the ensuing therapy probably blocked such a horrific memory.

Mayers: I'll be an optimist and say four. Stanback and Goldson for sure, but there must be a couple of other Dawgs the league wants. Personally, I think C.J. Wallace will end up selected — the All-Pac-10 safety plays with reckless abandon. Other possibilities include Sean Douglas, Stanley Daniels and Clay Walker. Mr. Irrelevant, anyone?
