Senior Amber Prange takes a swing at the Women’s Pac-10 championship yesterday, which will continue today and tomorrow at the Broadmoor Golf Club. The Husky team came 7th out of 10 but Prange came 7th out of 50 individuals after the first round.

If there was a home course advantage for the Washington women's golf team by hosting the Pac-10 tournament, it did not show after day one. At the Broadmoor Golf Course in Seattle, most of the Huskies struggled to find their stroke in the first 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament.

That did not include Christina Yoon, however, who shot a career best one-over 73 to lead the Huskies. Her score was good enough to place her in a tie for fourth with California's Allison Goodman.

Leading the way for the women was Anna Nordqvist from Arizona State. The freshman Sun Devil shot a 4-under 68, and leads Stanford's Mari Chun by three strokes.

Amber Prange also did well for Washington, ending in a tie for ninth with a 75.

The other Washington scores dropped the Huskies well off the pace, though, as the team finished the day 25 shots over par — 16 behind the leader, ASU.

Washington's No. 36 men's golf team used a big second round from two of its leaders in order to pull into the fifth spot in the Pac-10 tournament. At the par 72 Eugene Country Club, two Huskies finished with a score of par or lower.

Alex Prugh and Erik Olson ended day one with scores of 144 and 143 respectively, and the team finished with a 5-over 725.

Olson's 1-under 143 landed him in a tie for 10th, eight shots behind the leader, Jamie Lovemark.

The freshman from USC shot well under par in both rounds, collecting a 9-under 135.

The Trojans used Lovemark and Rory Hie to build a commanding eight-stroke lead heading into the second day. Chasing them was UCLA, the only other team to shoot under-par. The Bruins finished the day with a 708.

Prugh, meanwhile, shaved the extra stroke off his score by shooting a 71 in round two, putting himself in position to make a run for the rest of the week.

The surprise player for the Huskies was Joel Dahmen, who shot two day-one rounds of 73 to finish 2-over-par.
