Breaking News: Gould Hall Shooting

At 9:31 this morning, UW police responded to a call that there were shots fired inside Gould Hall, located on 15th Ave. NE and NE 40th St. Police have since learned that six shots were fired by a six-shot revolver in an office area on the southeast corner of the fourth floor, leaving two victims deceased at the scene. The handgun has been recovered.

The victims were 25-year-old program director at the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies, Rebecca Griego and a still unidentified man, suspected to be her former boyfriend, Jonathan Rowan, 41, said Assistant Police Chief Ray Wittmier. Griego had been stalked by Rowan, who she recieved death threats from him via telephone on March 7 and 14. The victim had also filed a domestic violence order against Rowan on March 6, while her sister, Rachel Griego filed a harassment order on the same date.

Gould Hall will remain closed for the rest of the day to allow for an ongoing investigation, but will re-open tomorrow. Please contact the Office of Registrar at (206) 543-5378 for more information on relocation of today's classes.
