Two assaulted at frat party

Share

Last night, two women were assaulted at Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity during a camouflage themed party.

There was a fight, and two people were assaulted,” said an anonymous UWPD officer.

One girl was kicked in the face and another was beaten and cut, according to UW students who were inside the house at the time of the assault. They also would not give their names.

According to eyewitnsses, the accused had committed several acts similar to this incident in the past.

A few students exited the fraternity with blood stains on their clothing.

This is from there, what do you think it is?” said one girl who was leaving the party covered in dark red-brown stains.

Another bystander said a man started punching a girl in the face during the course of the party and there was blood everywhere.

Ray Wittmier, UWPD assistant police chief, was unavailable for comment.

Well, well, well! If it isn't the Greeks throwing another one of their imfamous hissyfits. I can't believe I considered pledging my freshman year.

Seriously-come on-guys. The article never even mentioned who was to blame and they had to tell the location.

Actually, I am living proof that Greeks do grow up. So are my many brothers. I pledged Alpha Sigma Phi at NC State in 1981 – yes, 1981. We were all pretty much delericts at the time – which basically made us typical undergrads – but we were in a . . . ‘gasp’ . . . FRATERNITY, which made us much easier to demonize over whatever transgressions might occur.

Today, I realize that pledging Alpha Sigma Phi was one of the best things I ever did for myself. My fraternity brothers are still my very best friends. We aren’t derelicts anymore. We are all middle-aged now, with kids, mortgages and that stuff. Some of us are businessmen; some are engineers; one is a missionary in southern Mexico; two are ministers; one is a Colonel in the National Guard preparing for his third deployment to Iraq; several are recovering alcoholics (go figure) - and several more probably need to be.

I wish I could say such judgmental, ‘black and white’ thinking was a trait of the young, but sadly life has taught me that isn't true. I urge you to be open-minded about Greeks and non-Greeks alike.

I've never met many, but in those I have met, I've never met a greek who I liked as a person. One whom I worked with could discuss nothing but drinking and sex.
