The Washington men’s tennis team will be taking on Arizona State on Friday and Arizona on Sunday, the last home appearances of three seniors, including Daniel Chu, shown at a singles match against Stanford earlier this quarter.

"Both Arizona and Arizona State are good teams," UW coach Matt Anger said. "The match against Arizona State is going to be one of those great Pac-10 match-ups."

This will be the farewell home match for the team's three seniors, all of whom have made significant contributions during their years on the team. Co-captain Michael Ricks has been making his mark this season, especially in doubles, where he has paired with sophomore Patrik Fischer at the second doubles position for a team-best 11-6 record in dual-match play this season.

Fellow senior Alex Slovic — who was just named Pac-10 Player of the Week for the second time in his college career — has also been a valuable member of the team, and his leadership has been key in UW's success.

"Alex has really grown as a player," Anger said. "As a freshman, he was very good, but he was a little more quiet, although he's always been competitive on court. Now, his maturity and team-mindedness are really impressive. He's always helping and counseling others."

Slovic's doubles partner, Daniel Chu, has also been leading by example this season. His record-breaking 80 doubles wins ties him with Slovic for first in Washington history, and Chu has also notched two wins over ranked opponents at the No. 2 singles position.

Chu knows the significance of playing in front of supportive fans at the courts that have been his home for the past four years.

"It helps everybody to play at home," he said. "We're used to the courts, and we get a friendly crowd instead of heckling."

In attendance at Friday's match will be 20 former Washington players who are returning to Seattle this weekend to spend time with each other and the current players.

"These players are why we're able to have the things we do," Anger said. "It's good for our guys to appreciate what they've done for the program."
